SUBIACO UND DIE BENEDIKTINISCHEN KLÖSTER

Die Stadt Subiaco ist ein kleines Dorf am Rande der Provinz von Rom in den Simbruiner Bergen. Subiaco ist die Wiege des abendländischen Mönchtums, das vom heiligen Benedikt von Norcia ins Leben gerufen wurde.
Schon Kaiser Nero baute sich in dieser Gegend eine majästätische Villa und nutzte den Wasserreichtum dieser Gegend, um drei Seen zu errichten.

Ende des 5. Jahrhunderts beschloss Benedikt von Norcia, sich in diesem Tal niederzulassen und für drei Jahre lang ein Einsiedlerleben zu führen. Diese Höhle seines Einsiedlerdaseins ist heute bekannt als “Sacro Speco” und ist Teil eines wunderschönen in den Fels gebauten Klosters.
In den nächsten dreißig Jahren führte das Projekt von Benedikt zu einem religiösen Wachstums und zum Bau von dreizehn Klöstern, gegen die die Zeit gnadenlos war.
Das einzig erhaltene Kloster ist das seiner Schwester Santa Scolastica, das noch heute besichtigt werden kann.
