The houses are built in a natural and mountainous setting, with characteristic red mud as a building material. These residential complexes are the result of several centuries of development to inhabit, irrigate and exploit the slopes of the mountains. Abyaneh can be reached in just over an hour by road from Kashan and just over 2 from Isfahan: being conveniently located along a short detour from the highway that connects Kashan to Isfahan, this village is a destination frequently included in itinerant travel packages in Iran.

The things to see in Abyaneh are its adobe houses, a particular mixture of red clay and straw, which also covers all the facades. The architecture is very traditional and the oldest buildings date back to over a millennium ago.
