The absolute protagonist in the ancient history of Lazio has always been Rome, with its majestic monuments, its kings and its wars. We often forget that the Lazio region, long before the flourishing of Rome and in some ways at the base, saw the emergence of another civilization: the Etruscans. of Tuscany, we must not forget that the Etruscan expansion also affected many other regions, including Lazio. The Etruscan stay in Lazio has left many traces; we will deal with the necropolis, in particular those of Vulci, Tarquinia, Cerveteri and Veio (in order from the northernmost to the southernmost). This choice is certainly due to the peculiarities of the Etruscan burials, which we will not be able to analyze all in detail, as they are very numerous and very well preserved. Therefore, in this thematic itinerary, descriptions of the most significant tombs of the most characteristic places of Lazio Etruria will be reported. The ancient Etruscan city of Vulci is located in the province of Viterbo, a few kilometers from the border with Tuscany. It is one of the most important maritime centers of Etruria and its main port was Regisvilla. Today it bears the name of Pian di Voce.
