Rasht is the capital of the Gilan province of Iran and is the largest city on the Iranian coast of the Caspian Sea. It is an important trading center between Caucasia, Russia and Iran that uses the port of Bandar-e Anzali as the hub for imports and exports between the countries on the Caspian Sea coast.
Historically, Rasht was an important trading and transportation center connecting Iran to Russia and Europe, and for this reason it was known as the “Gateway to Europe”. The city has a history dating back to the 13th century, but its modern history dates back to the Safavid era during which Rasht was an important silk trading center with numerous textile workshops.
People from all over the country come there to experience a much wetter and colder climate than the rest of the country. It is the capital of the northern Iranian province of Guilan. All in all, Rasht and its surroundings offer a completely different experience to that of southern Iran.

Rasht Museum
The museum consists of three named sections, the archaeological, anthropological area and a document display sector. Here are exhibited objects discovered in the excavations of hillocks such as Marlik, Tukam, Daylaman, Cheraq Ali and the cave of Tegran.
Safi mosque
The construction dates back to the Safavid period, it is one of the beautiful religious buildings of Rasht. It is named after Mohammad Mirza, known as Safi Mirza, the eldest son of Shah Abbas. The Safi Mosque has been decorated with beautiful plasters and mosaics.
Ancient traditional bazaar
The daily bazaars are the important points of the province of Gilan, they really offer fresh products, from vegetables to meat, and are more and more animated. They are usually found in the heart of the city, but fixed bazaars like Rasht, Astara, Talesh, Roodbar also have the same characteristics. Rasht’s is a mixture of daily and fixed bazaars, because it is one of the liveliest and most animated bazaars in the province.
Gilan Rural Heritage Museum
Gilan Museum is a museum in the Saravan Forest Park in Rasht in Gilan Province. The museum is located on a land with an area of about 260 hectares in the Saravan forest park located 18 kilometers from the Persian Gulf (Rasht-Tehran) highway. The buildings of 9 original villages of the Gilan province that are symbols of the original architecture in Gilan are housed in this museum. Eynak Lagoon
Eynak Lagoon (Glasses Lagoon) is located on the edge of Daneshjou Park to the west of the city of Rasht and is considered the second largest pond in Gilan province in terms of surface area. Its surface is 12 kilometers. In the Eynak swamp live some fish such as salmon pie and farmed carp.
Mirza Kuchack Khan
Mirza Kuchak Khan (1880-1921), with a kind of rebellion, founded a movement in the forests of Gilan which became known as the Forest Movement. Mirza’s revolt was in response to the period of political decline caused by the advent of the First World War and the occupation of Iran by Anglo-Russian and Ottoman troops. The forestry movement was a popular uprising that took place in one of the most delicate periods in Iranian history until 1921 when the movement was completely abandoned following the disappearance of Mirza Kuchak Khan. Mirza Kuchak Khan died on December 2, 1921, in the high mountains of Talesh, in Gilan. The tomb of Mirza Kuchak Khan Jangali is located south of Rasht.
